Shanghai Conservatory of Music

Åström was invited to China by professor Liu Hou of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music to do a guest class on his work as a film composer in Los Angeles. He played scenes from his recent feature films and talked about his approach and methods for scoring to picture. He also discussed the realities of working under tight deadlines in Hollywood. The lecture was followed by a Q&A where Åström gave feedback on some of the Chinese students’ works.

Working on the psychological thriller “Death Waits”

Åström was recently commissioned to compose the the score for the upcoming Irish feature film “Death Waits”, directed by Redmond Fitzpatrick. The director describes the film as an atmospheric psychological thriller, a cross between ‘The Shining’ by Kubrick and ‘Repulsion’ by Polanski. This film features an Irish, Polish and American cast and stars Alicja Ayres and Tristan Heanue. It’s set to be released in the international arena in 2021.

Holding The Wire – A film about tournament paintball

Åström has started working on the score for Iacon Pictures’ feature documentaryHolding the Wire, a unique portrait of tournament paintball during an economically turbulent time.

Filmmaker Jose Diaz sets out to document the lives and experiences of tournament paintball players.

Along the way, he encounters a variety of individuals, young and old, from different walks of life, all united by a fierce passion for tournament paintball.

Scoring Santa’s Little Ferrets

Åström is currently working with HiJinx Entertainment and Random Bench Productions on the Christmas TV Special Santa’s Little Ferrets. Santa’s Little Ferrets is the story of how Santa Claus really delivers the presents on Christmas Eve – with the help of three highly trained ferrets! It stars Emma Tremblay (Elysium, The Judge, and The Giver) and Jacob Tremblay (Room, The Smurfs 2 and Somnia). It will be released on DVD and Bluray in 2014.
