On September 16th, 2015, Åström was invited to China by professor Liu Hou of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music to do a guest class on his work as a film composer in Los Angeles. He played scenes from his recent feature films and talked about his approach and methods for scoring to picture. He also discussed the realities of working under tight deadlines in Hollywood. The lecture was followed by a Q&A where Åström gave feedback on some of the Chinese students’ works.
Åström was recently commissioned to compose the the score for the upcoming Irish feature film “Death Waits”, directed by Redmond Fitzpatrick. The director describes the film as an atmospheric psychological thriller, a cross between ‘The Shining’ by Kubrick and ‘Repulsion’ by Polanski. This film features an Irish, Polish and American cast and stars Alicja Ayres and Tristan Heanue. It will be released in the international arena in 2016.
Åström has started working on the score for Iacon Pictures’ feature documentary Holding the Wire, a unique portrait of tournament paintball during an economically turbulent time. Filmmaker Jose Diaz sets out to document the lives and experiences of tournament paintball players. Along the way, he encounters a variety of individuals, young and old, from different walks of life, all united by a fierce passion for tournament paintball. The film is set for release in 2016.
